Beyond Beyond Layers-Days 8 and 9

Beyond Beyond Layers-Day 8-Chalk Love
Beyond Beyond Layers-Day 9-Text Play

I'm really enjoying Beyond Beyond Layers taught by the very talented arttist, Kim Klassen, but I' m
so behind on posting the lessons. Here are two from Day 8 and Day 9.  The first photo uses the magic film texture from the  Cloth and Paper Collection along with one of my favorite quotes regarding food and life. I first saw this quote on the wall of a restaurant at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam and upon further research found it was a Luciano Pavarotti quote.
The second photo was taken with my iPhone 5 and needs no explanation as the quote says it all. The spice mix is called Baharat, a North African mix traditionally used to season lamb.
Looking forward to posting more from Beyond Beyond Layers soon.

Tybee Island Images in Black and White

For thousands of years before the Spanish settlers arrived in the 16th century, native Americans, the Euchee in particular, navigated the ocean waters around today's Tybee Island. Tybee is the Euchee word for "salt". In 1520, the Spanish took over the island and named it Los Bajos. Pirates roamed the island and today, Tybee Island celebrates the annual Tybee Pirate Festival, a rousing tribute to the plundering and marauding band of rogues.

Beachcombers flock to the island in the summertime where a long expanse of sandy beach awaits. There are two piers, the one in the photo below is on the ocean side and the back river pier. Very prominent stands Tybee Island Light, once a beacon for guiding mariners safe entrance into the Savannah river, and now a museum with five historic buildings situated on a five acre site. Up 178 stairs to the First Order Fresnel lens, one can view miles and miles ocean and surrounding scenery.

More Digital Infrared-Palms

Two Palms-Orlando, Florida

All photos were shot in RAW with a Canon D60 converted to digital infrared. All were converted to black and white using either Silver Efex or Topaz BW Effects. The beauty of digital infrared is the lovely whites of  the normally green foliage. Palms are especially lovely to me, and I have many images which either include palms or palms are the main subject. I hope you enjoy these images.

South Harbor Marina, Skidaway Island-Lensbaby Images-Texture Tuesday

I love my Lensbaby lenses, but I don't use them as much as I should. One day this past summer, I attached the Composer optic to my DSLR, a simple lenses configured on a ball and socket design and set out on my walk down to our neighborhood marina. By tilting the lens at different angles, one can choose the "sweet spot" focus with a beautiful blur surrounding this small area of relative sharpness. Below are the fruits of my labor. All photos were processed in Rad Lab with various textures from Kim Klassen and Flypaper Textures. The top photo of the marina dock is my contribution to Texture Tuesday, the Dream eDition.
